Merz calls Israel’s ground offensive in Lebanon “mistake”

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has criticised Israel’s decision to launch a ground operation in Lebanon, describing the move as a “mistake.”

According to ABC News, the operation is part of Israel’s broader plan to expand its military campaign against Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran.

Commenting on the development, Merz warned that such an offensive would “further worsen the already tense humanitarian situation” in Lebanon.

He also called on Israel “not to go down this path,” urging restraint amid growing regional tensions.
