"Today, we mark the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Azerbaijan. We reaffirm our commitment to strengthening dialogue at the multilateral level and further expanding our bilateral ties," the Ministry stated.
Notably, bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Mexico have grown steadily since 1991, when Mexico recognized Azerbaijan's independence. Diplomatic ties were officially established on February 10, 1992.
Key milestones include the opening of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Mexico in 2006, followed by the Mexican Embassy in Azerbaijan in 2014. In 2018, Azerbaijan's then Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov visited Mexico to attend the inauguration of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, marking a significant diplomatic moment.
In 2020, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Mexico reached US$50.3 million, with Azerbaijan importing products such as dried peas, beer, frozen Pacific fish, cocoa-free sugar confectionery, and chocolate.
On the other hand, Azerbaijan exports a range of goods to Mexico, including gaskets, washers, magnetic rubber bands, fasteners, and spare parts for heavy machinery.
