Minister: Azerbaijan considers Tajikistan's participation at COP29 important
Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov has said that Azerbaijan and Tajikistan possess sufficient potential to further increase trade turnover.
He made the remarks at the Azerbaijani-Tajik business forum held in Baku on May 20, Report informs.
"In January-April 2024, trade turnover between our countries increased by 78 per cent. Of course, given the economic opportunities of our countries, we have ample opportunities to further increase trade turnover," Jabbarov said.
According to the minister, the Middle Corridor, as an integral part of the Silk Road, is experiencing steady growth in the volume of traffic handled.
"In 2023, the volume of goods transported along this route increased by 86 per cent to 2.7 million tonnes. Tajik companies are actively using this route," he added.
Jabbarov emphasised that Baku will host COP29, the next UN climate conference, in November.
"While natural resources continue to play a crucial role in Azerbaijan's economy, the country is committed to protecting the environment. We believe it is important for our colleagues from Tajikistan to participate in this platform, which is unique in its significance and scale, and we invite them to visit Baku again on the occasion of this event," the Minister said.
