Minister: Cargo transportation along East-West corridor keeps growing
The volume of cargo transportation along the international transport corridor East-West in January-September this year exceeded the same indicator of the previous year, Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov said at the 18th session of the SPECA Governing Council in Baku.
The minister also noted that over the last year, Azerbaijan has seen growth in various spheres of economy, including transport and logistics and transit transportation, Report says.
"Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line allows short delivery of cargoes from China to Europe and in the opposite direction, which affects the volume of cargo transportation," the minister noted.
He added that companies from the member states of the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) show interest in the Alat Free Economic Zone.
The minister also said that Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Joint Investment Company and Azerbaijan-Kyrgyz Development Fund were established: "We are implementing many projects in the automotive industry, shipbuilding, agriculture. In particular, projects are realized in cotton growing, silk growing, horticulture and cattle breeding".
