Minister: Romania may import Azerbaijani gas after IGB’s launch

21 September 2022 16:55

Romanian Energy Minister Virgil Popescu has said that the launch of a gas interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria will allow Romania to import gas from Azerbaijan through the Vertical Corridor.

Popescu made the remarks at the Romanian International Gas Conference, Trend reports on September 21 with reference to the Romanian media.

“We have been invited to the IGB (Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria) opening ceremony, which will allow putting the Vertical Corridor into operation and gaining access to Azerbaijani gas,” the minister said.

He added that agreements between the regional countries are also required to ensure the transit of this gas.

“We have been working for a very long time to get gas from non-Russian sources. We need a transit agreement and we are working on it to import gas or LNG from somewhere else, like Azerbaijan,” Popescu said.
