Moldova, Azerbaijan discuss energy cooperation, green corridor projects

Moldovan Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu has held talks in Baku with Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov and senior representatives of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), focusing on energy cooperation and regional infrastructure projects, according to Moldova’s Ministry of Energy.

The discussions covered potential collaboration in renewable energy development and strategic energy initiatives, including the Azerbaijan–Georgia–Romania–Hungary Green Energy Corridor, a proposed project aimed at strengthening cross-regional energy connectivity, Caliber.Az reports.

According to a statement from the Moldovan ministry, the talks also explored opportunities for SOCAR to supply oil products and natural gas to Moldova under competitive conditions, as well as potential Azerbaijani investment in Moldova’s energy sector.

“During negotiations with Azerbaijani representatives, Junghietu discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of renewable energy [RES] and the implementation of strategic regional projects,” the ministry said.

Moldova also expressed interest in attracting investment into projects aligned with European standards, including energy efficiency upgrades, modernisation of heating systems, and the introduction of new energy technologies.

The ministry added that Junghietu participated in Baku Energy Week, where he took part in a plenary ministerial session on international cooperation in building a sustainable and diversified energy future. During the session, he presented Moldova’s efforts to strengthen energy security and diversify supply sources.
