Montenegro, Azerbaijan discuss enhancing bilateral security cooperation

Montenegrin Interior Ministry State Secretary Novica Obradovic and Azerbaijani Ambassador to Montenegro Kamil Khasiyev held talks on strengthening security cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, both sides highlighted the strong friendship and successful collaboration in the economic and tourism sectors, expressing a shared interest in elevating security ties to a higher level, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

Ambassador Khasiyev pointed out that Azerbaijani citizens view Montenegro as a safe destination for tourism and a promising environment for business, noting a growing need to expand cooperation in security matters. He proposed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in Migration between the relevant authorities of both countries.

Obradovic reaffirmed the close bilateral relations, providing details on the number of Azerbaijani citizens legally residing in Montenegro and their current activity trends.

He also announced that, following Montenegro’s alignment of its visa policy with the European Union and ongoing European integration, a visa regime for Azerbaijani citizens came into effect on January 15, 2026.

The state secretary added that a new system is being developed to enable foreign nationals to apply for Montenegrin visas online, which is expected to simplify the process significantly. 

Both sides concluded by emphasising the capacity and willingness to strengthen security cooperation and initiate joint efforts in this field.
