Morocco’s princess dives into Azerbaijani culture at International Mugham Centre PHOTO
During her official visit to Azerbaijan on May 6, Princess of the Kingdom of Morocco Lalla Hasna toured the International Mugham Centre, where she received a detailed overview of the cultural landmark.
The International Mugham Centre, a flagship initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, was established under the guidance of Azerbaijan’s First Vice President, Mehriban Aliyeva, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The centre is designed to preserve and promote Azerbaijan's rich national spiritual values on the global stage.
The Princess was briefed on the origins of the centre, which was established following a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on April 6, 2005. The facility occupies a three-story building covering 7,500 square meters and is uniquely shaped like a tar, an ancient Azerbaijani musical instrument.
Since its opening to the public on December 27, 2008, the centre has served as a cultural hub, featuring a 350-seat concert hall, a club, an 80-seat restaurant, classrooms, and a state-of-the-art recording studio. Princess Lalla Hasna was also introduced to a collection of traditional Azerbaijani musical instruments displayed in the centre’s foyer, providing her with insight into the country’s rich musical heritage.
Following the tour, the Princess attended a concert showcasing the mesmerising art of Azerbaijani mugham, a traditional form of music that exemplifies the country's artistic and cultural depth. The performance highlighted the profound historical and aesthetic value of Azerbaijan’s national music. Princess Lalla Hasna was visibly impressed by the International Mugham Centre, praising its cultural significance and expressing admiration for the efforts made to preserve and promote Azerbaijan's unique musical traditions.
