MP: Azerbaijani national companies to benefit from Zangazur corridor most of all
An Azerbaijani MP has said that the local companies must benefit from the opening of the Zangazur corridor more than neighbouring countries and private companies amid the changes in economic ties due to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
“Cargo transportation should become a promising sphere of development from the point of view of Azerbaijan’s favourable geographical location and the infrastructure projects, namely, North-South and East-West corridors, being implemented by the president,” Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the Azerbaijani parliament and head of the Social Research Centre Zahid Oruj said on November 25, according to Report.
“Some 250 million tons of cargo were transported by Azerbaijan in 2019. However, there are several factors that deprive the state budget and citizens of hundreds of millions of dollars and make us vulnerable to Russian, Turkish and Georgian cargo carriers,” the chairman added.
