Nigeria seeks deeper digital cooperation with Azerbaijan

26 November 2025 15:13

Nigeria is interested in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan in telecommunications and digital development.

Chidi Enverem, a member of the Nigerian delegation participating in the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25) in Baku, made the remark while saying that Azerbaijan is successfully hosting the event, where productive discussions are underway, and key decisions on the future of global telecommunications are being adopted, Caliber.Az reports, citing Trend.

He noted that the high level of organisation and Azerbaijan’s substantial experience in the digital sphere have drawn strong interest.

“Nigeria is interested in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan in the fields of telecommunications and digital development, and we believe that this conference will be a good start for future relations between the two countries,” he said.

He emphasised that WTDC is a platform designed to support less developed countries. “The goal is to expand access to communications and digitalization for less developed countries. For example, yesterday, we discussed how to support Sudan, Libya, and some island countries on the path to digital development. In general, this is exactly the main goal of this conference. So far, a number of important decisions have been taken in favor of the telecommunications sector,” he added.

Enverem also described today’s agenda: “Today [November 26], plenary sessions are held. Here, all the sections come together and review the decisions made at the working group level. The decisions agreed upon in the plenary session are binding on all countries from now on.”

The World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC), which began on November 17 and is being held in Azerbaijan for the first time in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region, will run until November 28.

WTDC is organised every four years by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to reduce the digital divide among countries and promote digital transformation.

The conference creates opportunities for young people to gain knowledge about global technological innovations and trends, meet leading experts in the field, establish cooperation, and enhance their international competitiveness.

The event also aims to keep attention on the development of Azerbaijan’s ICT sector and to stimulate the strengthening of international cooperation in the field of information and communication technologies.
