Nigerian boxer provisional suspended from Paris 2024 for doping
The International Testing Agency (ITA) has reported that a sample collected from Nigerian boxer Cynthia Temitayo Ogunsemilore has tested positive for the prohibited substance furosemide.
Classified as an S5 diuretic and masking agent on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) prohibited list, furosemide's presence in the sample indicates a violation of anti-doping regulations, Caliber.Az reports citing a message posted on the website of the International Testing Agency.
The sample was collected by the ITA, operating under the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) testing and results management authority, during an out-of-competition anti-doping control on July 25, 2024, in Paris, France. The result, reported by the WADA-accredited laboratory in Paris, was disclosed on July 27, 2024.
The athlete has been notified of the case and has been provisionally suspended pending the resolution of the matter, in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code and the IOC Anti-Doping Rules for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This suspension prevents the athlete from competing, training, coaching, or participating in any activities related to the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
The athlete has the right to contest the provisional suspension before the Court of Arbitration for Sport – Anti-Doping Division (CAS ADD). Additionally, the athlete may request an analysis of the B-sample.
The ITA, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to clean sport operations, is overseeing an independent anti-doping program for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on behalf of the IOC.
