No “closed topics” in Azerbaijan–Belarus relations, top lawmaker says

19 May 2026 14:46

Igor Sergeyenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, has said there are “no closed topics” in relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus, as Minsk plans to take part in projects in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories worth around $1 billion.

Sergeyenko made the remarks during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

He noted that the Belarusian delegation is attending the forum on the instruction of President Aleksandr Lukashenko.

“The forum is organised at an excellent level. More than 45,000 people are participating here. This is a large-scale event,” Sergeyenko said.

He stressed that the central aim of international cooperation should be improving living conditions for people.

“The development of bilateral relations with our friendly country Azerbaijan is one of our priorities. We are discussing this direction with our partners,” he said.

Sergeyenko also confirmed Belarus’ intention to participate in reconstruction and development projects in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories.

“Of course, with the participation of the Republic of Belarus, projects are planned in the liberated territories. The cost of these projects is around $1 billion,” he stated.

He added that in bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus, there are “no closed topics.”
