Official: Azerbaijan's role in global energy cooperation recognised by OPEC+
Azerbaijan's hosting of the inaugural meeting of the Technical Committee of the OPEC+ Charter of Cooperation (CoC) in Baku reflects international recognition of the country's role in the global energy industry, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Shahbazov said the decision to hold the event in Baku was not coincidental but acknowledged Azerbaijan's historical contribution to the energy sector and its growing role in international energy cooperation, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
According to the minister, Azerbaijan's long-standing participation in the OPEC+ initiative demonstrates the successful development of cooperation between the country and the organisation.
Shahbazov also highlighted Azerbaijan's place in the history of the oil industry, noting that the world's first industrially drilled oil well, completed in Bibiheybat in 1846, is commemorated at OPEC headquarters in Vienna, underscoring the country's contribution to the development of the global oil sector.
