Armenian official: Peace talks with Azerbaijan continue despite challenges
Secretary of the parliamentary faction of the ruling Civil Contract party Artur Hovhannisyan has said that negotiations on the peace agreement project with Azerbaijan have not reached an impasse.
He made these remarks during a regular briefing at the National Assembly of Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Armenian media.
Hovhannisyan noted that the negotiation process is ongoing, which indicates that there are certain challenges.
"There are disputed points, discussions around which are more complex and require time. However, we are not talking about an impasse and continue the negotiation process. This process is ongoing. The main negotiators are continuing their work with Azerbaijan and our international partners to bring the peace agreement to its final conclusion," he added.
Earlier, Special Representative of the Azerbaijani president for Special Assignments Elchin Amirbayov said that efforts to resolve the territorial dispute and normalise relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia are making significant headway, with both sides nearing the signing of a pivotal peace agreement.
Peace prospects continue improving through a series of important confidence-building measures between the two countries, greatly enhancing the chances for peace in the South Caucasus.
Pashinyan also expressed his commitment to finalising an agreement with Azerbaijan by the end of the year.
