Official: Qatar engaged in ongoing talks with US to de-escalate regional tensions
Qatar is holding daily talks with the United States in a bid to ease rising tensions in the region, with a particular focus on resuming negotiations between Washington and Tehran, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Majed Al-Ansari said.
Speaking at a press-conference, Al-Ansari noted that discussions between the US and Iran have been going positively, and Qatar is working to build on that progress, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Al-Ansari emphasised that Qatar is committed to de-escalation and is making all possible contacts with both regional and international parties to prevent further deterioration of the situation. He said the prime minister and foreign minister continue to stress the importance of calming the region and are actively supporting diplomatic efforts.
Qatar is also working to reduce tensions between Israel and Iran. Al-Ansari warned that if the current escalation is not halted, it could lead to more serious consequences.
He noted that countries in the region are supporting efforts to bring Washington and Tehran to the negotiating table, and said the only way out of the crisis is through dialogue.
Al-Ansari also warned against the reckless targeting of energy facilities in Iran and said Qatari energy officials are in contact with their partners to confirm the robustness of protective measures in place.
On June 13, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Israel had acted unilaterally in its strikes on Iran, emphasising that the United States was not involved in the operation. Rubio warned Tehran against retaliating against American interests, stressing that Washington's primary concern was the safety of its personnel in the region.
“We are not involved in strikes against Iran, and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region,” Rubio said, adding that Iran should not target US interests or personnel.
Despite these assurances, Iranian state media accused the United States of being complicit in the attack, which, according to Iranian reports, resulted in civilian casualties, including children. The allegations have further inflamed regional tensions, with Tehran viewing Washington’s support for Israel as indirect involvement in the strike.
