Oman parliament to review double taxation deal with Azerbaijan

28 June 2026 17:04

Oman's parliament is set to review a tax agreement with Azerbaijan aimed at eliminating double taxation.

According to Oman Observer, the matter will be discussed during a session of the Shura Council of Oman scheduled for tomorrow, June 29.

Lawmakers will consider a draft Agreement between the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the elimination of double taxation with respect to income taxes and the prevention of tax evasion.

Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, said the parliament continues to fulfill its legislative responsibilities by reviewing proposed laws, agreements, and initiatives, contributing to the development of the country's legal framework and public policy.

He noted that the upcoming session will also examine draft legislation designed to prevent the disconnection of essential utility services for low-income families, dismissed workers, and individuals facing difficult life circumstances. The initiative seeks to establish a legal framework that balances the rights of service recipients with the obligations of providers.

In addition, lawmakers will review a number of proposals and reports prepared by the parliament's standing committees on issues related to economic, social, and infrastructure development.

The agenda includes discussions on advancing the knowledge-based economy, creating a system that links corporate tax procedures with government payments, assessing the effectiveness of economic diplomacy, improving social housing and subsidized mortgage programs, evaluating policies aimed at increasing Omani employment in the tourism sector, and examining the opportunities and challenges associated with developing future agricultural cities.
