Pakistan hails Baku as model of progress, modern development

18 May 2026 18:16

The Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has praised Azerbaijan’s approach to sustainable urban development and the transformation plans for Baku and the wider country, describing them as aimed at creating a modern, well-connected infrastructure system.

Speaking at the Leaders’ Summit during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Maryam Nawaz said she did not feel like a foreign visitor in the city and expressed pride that her first official overseas mission took place in Azerbaijan, according to local media.

“Being here in Baku, I do not feel like I am in a foreign city. I am proud that my first foreign visit in an official capacity took place in Azerbaijan. I came to Baku, which is a vivid example of progress, resilience, and modern development,” she said.
