Paralympics: Azerbaijani runner wins gold, sets new record
Paris is currently hosting the Paralympics-2024, where Azerbaijani runner Lamiya Valiyeva made headlines today with her exceptional performance in the 100-metre T13 category.
Valiyeva, competing in the first subgroup of the qualification round, completed the distance in an impressive 11.81 seconds, securing first place and advancing to the final. In the final, she outdid herself, finishing first with a time of 11.76 seconds, earning her second gold medal at these Games, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Not only did Valiyeva claim gold, but she also set new world and Paralympic records with her outstanding run. This victory adds to her already impressive track record, having won gold in the 400 meters and silver in the 100 metres at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
Valiyeva's triumph at the Paris 2024 Paralympics marks a significant achievement for Azerbaijan, showcasing her exceptional talent and determination on the global stage.
The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, which is taking place between 28 August and 8 September, brings together as many as 4,400 athletes from around the world. The athletes compete in 549 medal events across 22 sports, taking the spotlight at some of Paris' most iconic landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower, the Chateau de Versailles and the Grand Palais.
