Paris 2024: Azerbaijan's Valiyeva clinches silver in 400m Adds to Paralympic medal count
Azerbaijani runner Lamiya Valiyeva has secured a silver medal in the 400m final (T13 category) at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
Valiyeva achieved a time of 55.09 seconds in the final, following her qualification performance where she placed second in her subgroup with a time of 56.51 seconds, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
This silver medal adds to Valiyeva’s impressive Paralympic career, which includes a gold medal in the same event at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where she set a Paralympic record with a time of 55 seconds. Earlier in the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Valiyeva also won gold in the 100m, further enhancing her standing.
With this latest achievement, Veliyeva now holds a total of four Paralympic medals (2 gold and 2 silver), continuing to solidify her status as a leading athlete in her category.
First Vice-President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva shared a post on social media accounts congratulating Azerbaijani athlete Lamiya Valiyeva on winning a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games.

I sincerely congratulate our athlete who has represented Azerbaijan with great honour and wish her strength, energy, and more victories!” the post by Aliyeva reads.
