Pashinyan’s US visit begins with demonstrations against his leadership PHOTO
A "surprise" awaited Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan upon his arrival in Washington, DC.
Pashinyan was greeted near the Armenian Embassy by protesters who were displaying posters criticising his policies. Members of the ARFD (Armenian Revolutionary Federation of Dashnaktsutyun) youth wing hung a sign on the embassy building with the message "Pashinyan ruined Armenia", Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
Pashinyan, who is in the US for a working visit from February 3-7, is scheduled to attend the fifth summit of the International Alliance for Religious Freedom in Washington on February 4-5. At the summit, he is expected to deliver a speech. The alliance, founded in 2020, consists of 42 countries.
In addition to the summit, Pashinyan will take part in the National Prayer Breakfast, an annual event that traditionally features the participation of the US president.
This visit comes on the heels of a January trip by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, who signed a strategic partnership agreement with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The agreement emphasizes Armenia's desire for greater integration into Euro-Atlantic structures.
