PM: Azerbaijan ready to cooperate with EAEU on climate issues
Azerbaijan has maintained strong and friendly relations with the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) for over three decades, fostering mutual respect and cooperation.
Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov highlighted this at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Almaty, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
"Last year, a large number of mutual visits took place between our countries, both at the level of heads of state and at the level of heads and members of governments. This serves as evidence of the intensive dialogue between our nations at various levels," Asadov stated.
The Prime Minister also recalled that Azerbaijan successfully hosted the COP29 climate conference in November, where EAEU member states were represented at the highest level.
"Taking this opportunity, on behalf of the Azerbaijani government, I would like to once again express gratitude for the contribution to the conference. Azerbaijan was elected as the host country of COP29 with the unanimous support of about 200 countries, including our EAEU partners. We are grateful for this support," he said.
Asadov further emphasized Azerbaijan’s commitment to working with EAEU countries to address global climate challenges.
As a reminder, at the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November 2024, a landmark agreement was reached to scale up climate finance for developing nations. Developed countries pledged to raise their annual climate finance contributions from the previous target of $100 billion to $300 billion by 2035.
Additionally, the conference set a broader goal of mobilizing $1.3 trillion annually by 2035 from both public and private sources to support climate initiatives in developing countries.
