PM: Japan seeks peace with Russia without lifting sanctions
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said during the plenary session of the lower house of parliament that Tokyo would like to conclude a peace treaty with Moscow, but will continue to adhere to the policy of anti-Russian sanctions.
"There is a difficult situation in Japan-Russia relations, but Japan remains firmly committed to the course aimed at resolving the territorial issue and concluding a peace treaty," TASS quotes Kishida as saying.
At the same time, he emphasized that Tokyo will continue to actively promote sanctions against Russia and support Ukraine.
Before that, RBC, citing the Japanese embassy, wrote that Japan is on course to sign a peace treaty with Russia by resolving the territorial dispute.
Japan's diplomatic mission said that it had held talks with Russia on a peace agreement due to the unresolved dispute over territorial issues.
Earlier, Russia terminated the agreement on cooperation in the elimination of nuclear weapons with Japan.
