PM: Opposition may drag Georgia into war if comes to power
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has expressed concerns that if the former ruling party, United National Movement, and other opposition groups come to power, they might drag Georgia into conflict.
"You know that the United National Movement is aiming to return to power. Of course, this will not happen. However, if we hypothetically consider it, they would, within a very short period—at most one week—take actions that could once again lead Georgia to war, which we must absolutely prevent," Kobakhidze stated, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.
The prime minister noted that following the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine in 2022, the opposition in Georgia has been seeking to open a "second front" against Russia.
He highlighted demands for volunteers to be sent to Ukraine with the official consent of the Georgian government.
Previously, Kobakhidze had claimed that certain foreign forces are frustrated by Georgia's refusal to open a "second front" against Russia. He emphasized that Georgia remains committed to defending its own interests firmly and will continue doing so.
