PM: Time has come to raise Armenia-Iran ties to strategic stage
Armenia and Iran have agreed to raise their bilateral relations to a strategic level, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced during a joint briefing with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Yerevan.
Pashinyan said that the Iranian president’s visit would provide fresh momentum to the already close and mutually trusting ties between the two countries, which he described as rooted in deep friendship between the Armenian and Iranian peoples, Caliber.Az reports, referring to Armenian media.
“We have come to the conclusion that the time has come to take steps to elevate bilateral relations to a strategic level,” the prime minister stated.
According to Pashinyan, the talks also touched upon regional developments and the unblocking of transport links. He emphasised that Armenia and its people highly value Iran’s consistent position in support of Armenia’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and the inviolability of its borders.
“For both Armenia and Iran, the inviolability of international borders and uninterrupted communication between our countries are of vital importance,” he underscored.
The prime minister further noted that he had briefed President Pezeshkian on the agreements reached in Washington with Azerbaijan concerning a peaceful settlement. He stressed that the planned opening of transport communications would create new opportunities for Armenian-Iranian cooperation, particularly in rail transport.
As part of the visit, Armenia and Iran signed ten memorandums of understanding covering political, economic, and cultural cooperation.
