Political analyst: US not to become Armenia’s guarantor NATO not to accept Armenia either
Armenian political analyst Suren Surenyants has said that the US or other Western players cannot become Armenia’s guarantor.
“Do you seriously think that if we do not become a Turkish substate, Türkiye will agree for Armenia to become a NATO member? If anyone in Armenia is seriously considering this prospect, I welcome this person. I think that these people are in heaven,” Surenyants told the Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.
“You know that joining any organisation can be considered and discussed very seriously, but making a decision is very important taking into account environmental factors and time. If anything was right yesterday, it will not necessarily be right today. Something dangerous today can become a reality tomorrow with fewer risks,” he said.
“Therefore, at the moment, the prospects for Armenia’s integration into the EU and NATO are unreal and entail many risks. In this case, we will have problems not only with two bulls [Azerbaijan and Türkiye] of the region as Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan says, but also with two other strong players in the region [Russia and Iran],” the political analyst noted.
“In this case, Armenia’s future is obvious. By the way, the same analysis was conducted by the US RAND corporation a few days ago, which is one of the most prestigious analytical centres in the US, and this is not a position based on Russian narratives,” he said.
“We will arrange interviews with numerous US academicians and we will see that my position is very similar to theirs. The US academicians insist that the US or other Western players cannot become Armenia’s guarantor,” he added.
