Politician: Russian border guards - loaded gun at head of Armenia

Chairman of Armenia’s Republican Party Aram Sargsyan has described Russian border guards as loaded gun at the head of Armenia.

"We are now part of the European agenda, which is categorically unacceptable to Russia because it does not recognize Ukraine as a state. Russia claims that there was no such state as Ukraine. And if they don't recognize Ukraine today, they will say tomorrow that Armenia never existed. If they don't say it tomorrow, they will say it the next day. If Russia wins in Ukraine, they will say that there were not even countries like Poland, Finland or former Soviet republics," Sargsyan said in an interview with Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.

“Therefore, in this regard, the first step that the Armenian authorities should take is to make a political decision and withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO). Armenia should not wait for the CSTO to leave us. The authorities should declare that we are withdrawing from the CSTO, as this military-political organization does not ensure our security. The second step is for Armenia to withdraw from the meaningless structure called CIS. If we want to have relations with Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan, we can do it directly, there is no problem here. After that Russia itself will say that it is withdrawing its border troops. We are talking about the border guards who stand on the border with Türkiye and Iran.

I agree with the opinion that the Russian border guards standing at Zvartnots airport and on the conditional Armenian-Azerbaijani border are just a loaded gun put to Armenia's head. However, I can say the following: there are processes going on at Zvartnots airport, and it is desirable that there should be less public talk about them now. Because the opposite wing uses every word, and this opposite wing is Russians, who believe that Ruben Mehrabyan (the host of the program - ed.) talks to Pashinyan every day, Pashinyan shares views with him, and that we also receive money from Soros," the Armenian politician said.
