Politico: Kamala Harris to push for federal ban on price gouging
US Vice President Kamala Harris will urge Congress to pass a federal ban on price gouging as part of her economic strategy to reduce grocery prices and everyday costs.
The proposal, set to be announced during a speech in North Carolina, is a central element of her plan for the first 100 days in office, according to a campaign official, Caliber.Az reports, citing Politico.
Harris aims to address high grocery prices, a persistent issue for the Biden-Harris administration since the pandemic. Her proposal also includes directing the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general to investigate and penalize food companies that violate the ban.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to lower costs for Americans, which Harris will outline in a speech on August 15.
Despite recent polling showing some positive signs, Harris and President Biden are still trailing former President Donald Trump on economic issues. Harris plans to counter Trump’s economic proposals, arguing that his plans, such as imposing new tariffs, would increase costs for food and other essentials.
