Rail freight from Iran to Azerbaijan grows by 81%
Over the past two months, 120,125 tons of cargoes have been transported by rail from Iran to Azerbaijan, Iranian Railways spokesman Gulamhusein Valdi said.
According to him, this is 81 per cent more than the same period last year, Report informs.
"Cargo traffic on the Astara-Astara railway line between Iran and Azerbaijan is growing exponentially," he said.
The Astara-Astara railway line is part of the North-South project that connects Iran's railroads with the railway system of Azerbaijan. The length of the road is 10 kilometers from the city of Astara to the border with Iran and 2 kilometers from the city of Astara in Iran.
Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran plan to sign an intergovernmental agreement in 2023 on the construction of the last part needed to complete the overland railway route of the North-South corridor.
