Romania, Azerbaijan may cooperate on Southern Gas Corridor project
Romanian Energy Minister Virgil-Daniel Popescu has said his country and Azerbaijan may jointly participate in the projects related to the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) and the creation of a “green bridge” between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea.
Negotiations are currently underway with Baku on the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Romania, according to Popescu.
“We want to become one of the beneficiaries of Azerbaijani gas, and negotiations are ongoing in this regard. Since they are not finalised, it is not possible to disclose any information about terms and volumes,” Report quotes him as saying.
The minister said Romania is also interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of "green energy”.
"We can work on delivering this "green energy" to Europe," Popescu said.
The Romanian minister also spoke about the recent Baku Energy Week forum and the speech of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the official opening ceremony of the 27th International Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition as part of the Baku Energy Week.
“It was a great event, and 3 years after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, we had the opportunity to meet with colleagues from the Balkans and Azerbaijan. I met with colleagues from Türkiye, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, and Azerbaijan. At the opening of the exhibition, a message from President Ilham Aliyev was voiced. I support his views on the energy sector,” Popescu concluded.
