Azerbaijan says cooperation with Africa based on complementary potential

Azerbaijan’s cooperation with African countries is founded on the principle of complementing existing economic and development potential, according to Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Kenya Sultan Hajiyev.

Speaking at an event in Baku on May 25 marking Africa Day 2026, the diplomat said that many African nations are already demonstrating strong progress despite difficult circumstances, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

He said several countries on the continent are effectively “setting an example of what can be achieved even in the most challenging conditions.”

Hajiyev noted that Azerbaijan’s approach to partnership with African countries is based on identifying areas where the strengths of both sides can complement one another.

"What our partners can do and what Azerbaijan is doing is a comparison of the elements we see in Africa that can complement what Azerbaijan has to offer."

He also pointed out that a number of African countries continue to face serious crises and humanitarian emergencies requiring broader international support and attention.
