Pakistan, Azerbaijan pledge stronger cooperation on trade, energy and defence

Pakistan and Azerbaijan have reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, focusing on political alignment, defence cooperation, and expanding economic and energy ties.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on the sidelines of the UN Security Council Open Debate in New York, Caliber.Az reports, citing Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. They also stressed the importance of amplifying the voice of the Global South in shaping a more equitable international order.

The two ministers highlighted what they described as strong momentum in bilateral relations, crediting the leadership of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for advancing cooperation across multiple sectors.

Defence cooperation was described as a key pillar of the relationship, with both sides noting historic ties in this area. Economic engagement also featured prominently in the discussions, with agreement to enhance trade flows by optimising the Preferential Trade Agreement and Transit Trade Agreement frameworks.

Energy cooperation was another central topic, with both countries expressing readiness to expand collaboration in LNG and broader energy projects.
