UN deputy chief praises Azerbaijan’s climate, multilateral role
The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed has praised Azerbaijan’s role in advancing climate diplomacy and multilateral cooperation following a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
In a post on X, Mohammed described the meeting as a “meaningful discussion” with the Azerbaijani leader, highlighting the country’s recent international initiatives, Caliber.Az reports.

“Meaningful discussion with HE Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan,” she wrote.
She pointed to Azerbaijan’s leadership of COP29 and its hosting of the World Urban Forum as examples of its growing engagement in global climate and development diplomacy.
“From Azerbaijan’s successful COP29 Presidency to its hosting of the World Urban Forum, its continued efforts to advance climate diplomacy, multilateralism and cooperation remain important at a time when collective action is needed more than ever,” she added.
