Russia classifies data on production of petroleum products
The Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation (Rosstat) has ceased publishing data on the production of petroleum products in Russia.
This decision is evident from Rosstat's latest report on the dynamics of industrial production in the country, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Specifically, Rosstat has stopped providing monthly data on the output of key petroleum products, including diesel fuel, furnace fuel oil, liquefied propane and butane, coke, and semi-coke derived from hard coal. Additionally, the report no longer includes figures on the production of stable gas condensate.
However, Rosstat continues to release information on the monthly dynamics of coke and petroleum products production. According to the agency's latest data, the production of these products in July increased by 7.2 per cent compared to June but saw a decrease of 2.7 percent compared to July 2023. Over the first seven months of 2024, the production of coke and petroleum products in Russia fell by 3.2 per cent year-on-year.
Rosstat explained that the cessation of publishing data on petroleum products production is based on a decision by the Russian government.
This move follows an earlier decision in April 2023, when Russia stopped publishing statistical data on oil and gas production, citing "information security of the oil products market" as the reason. The ban on the publication of statistics on hydrocarbon production in Russia was extended until April 1, 2025.
In May, the Russian government further decided to withhold data on petrol production, expressing concerns that "against the background of current geopolitical events," the disclosure of such information "may serve as a basis for market manipulation by unscrupulous participants."
