Russia developing "unstoppable" missile capable of reaching London in 8 minutes — media
Russia is developing an “unstoppable” hypersonic missile that reportedly surpasses the Oreshnik missile system in performance and could reach London in eight minutes, the Daily Star reports, citing Viktor Baranets, a military commentator for Komsomolskaya Pravda.
Baranets reportedly described the new weapon as the “son of Oreshnik.”
"Officials in Moscow and Minsk have also stated that the missile system has been positioned in Belarus. From this location, it is suggested that the weapon could reach London in a scant eight minutes," the report reads.
According to the publication, the new system will be capable of carrying eight kinetic warheads and striking targets at depths of up to 30 metres.
The military expert said the missile will be equipped with upgraded guidance systems. "Engineers are examining a design featuring a heavier payload, enhanced fuel technology, and 'fundamentally different' guidance systems."
"We are indeed developing and testing a missile that will be more powerful than the Oreshnik," he said. "It will have improved warhead yield parameters."
Baranets indicated the enhanced system could potentially carry eight kinetic warheads instead of six, with the capability to pierce fortified targets to depths of approximately 100 feet.
The source said efforts are currently underway to improve targeting accuracy, which would make the weapon more effective in strikes both against targets in Ukraine and against facilities in the West.
However, there has been no official confirmation of the development of such a missile.
