Russia opposes freezing Ukrainian conflict, calls for final solution
The Russian Foreign Ministry has expressed strong opposition to any proposal that would freeze the ongoing Ukrainian conflict, citing concerns that such an approach would be exploited by Western powers to further arm Kyiv and potentially enable future retaliatory actions.
In a statement issued ahead of a press conference by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the Ministry outlined its stance on the conflict, emphasizing its preference for a "final, fair, and sustainable solution" that addresses the root causes of the crisis, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
The statement firmly rejected any notion of a temporary truce or freezing the conflict, deeming such measures unacceptable.
"Temporary truce and freezing the conflict are unacceptable," the Ministry declared.
"They will certainly be used by the West to strengthen the military potential of the Kyiv regime and facilitate attempts at armed revenge."
The Ministry called for the establishment of reliable, legally binding agreements and mechanisms to prevent the resumption of hostilities, further underlining that Russia’s goal is a resolution that removes the underlying factors contributing to the crisis.
Additionally, the Ministry reiterated Russia’s readiness for negotiations with Ukraine but stressed that the behavior and positions of Kyiv and Western allies remain significant obstacles to a peaceful settlement. The Russian government has long advocated for direct dialogue with Ukraine, but has criticized the West’s influence on Kyiv as impeding meaningful progress.
