Russia reports 98 per cent accuracy of anti-radar system in Ukraine

15 October 2022 01:30

A Russian anti-radar missile produced by the Russian Tactical Missiles Corporation (KTRV) demonstrated effectiveness of over 98% during the special military operation in Ukraine, a defence industry source told TASS.

"A few dozen air-to-radar missiles produced by KTRV were used to strike targets of the Ukrainian armed forces. Practically all of them successfully hit the designated targets," the source said, without naming the missile.

According to KTRV’s product catalogue, the missile could be the high-speed Kh-31PD anti-radar missile, designed to strike the radars of air defence systems. According to the catalogue, the missile has a range of 250 kilometres. It can be launched from an aircraft at an altitude of up to 15 km, at the speed of 1.5 Mach (about 1,700 kmph), round the clock and in all weather conditions.

TASS has been unable to officially confirm the information at the time of the publication.

The Kh-31 family (NATO reporting name Krypton AS-17) of missiles comprises antiship and antiradar options. Kh-31PD antiradar missile has twice as bigger a range as Kh-31PK. The guidance system is platformless inertial with broadband passive radar homing warhead. The universal cluster payload weighs 110 kg and the missile launch weight is 715 kg.

KTRV was founded under a presidential decree of January 24, 2002. The corporation produces precision-guided missiles, smart bombs, and airborne, ground-based and seaborne weapon systems. In 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the top national title of the Hero of Russia to KTRV CEO Boris Obnosov for "considerable contribution to strengthening the country’s defence capabilities.".
