Russia’s FSB foils terror plot in Ufa, detains Central Asian nationals
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) prevented a terror attack planned by two Central Asian citizens in Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan.
According to the FSB, the suspects were under surveillance after being identified as gathering intelligence on a local police department, which they had targeted for an attack, Caliber.Az reports.
They conducted reconnaissance, acquired automatic firearms, purchased components for an improvised explosive device (IED), and began assembling it.
During the arrest, the cell leader resisted with armed force and was neutralised in the ensuing firefight. No law enforcement officers or civilians were injured. The other group member was detained and is undergoing investigation.
Explosive components were seized from their residence. A criminal case has been opened under Part 1 of Article 30, paragraph “a” of Part 2 of Article 205 (attempted terrorist act), and Part 2 of Article 205.5 (participation in a terrorist organisation) of the Russian Criminal Code.
