Russia's FSB detains Samara resident over alleged spying for Ukraine
Russian Federal Security Bureau (FSB) officers have detained a local resident in Samara on suspicion of espionage and treason.
According to investigators, the suspect spent several months in 2024 collecting and transmitting information via internet messengers to Ukrainian intelligence services, which could have been used against Russia’s security, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has seen a sharp rise in treason and espionage prosecutions, often framed as countering Ukrainian intelligence recruitment. The FSB frequently reports such detentions via state media, accompanied by videos of arrests, interrogations, or "confessions" (often questioned for potential coercion).
