Russian 44th Army Corps eliminates Polish mercenaries in Kursk region

Motorized riflemen of the Russian 44th Army Corps eliminated Polish mercenaries in the Kursk region who were attempting to attack their positions, reported the commander of the motorized rifle battalion of the 44th Army Corps, known by the call sign Horizon.

"Radio intercepts indicated the presence of Polish mercenaries speaking Polish. While we were on the defensive and the enemy was advancing, Polish mercenaries were eliminated, as well as a fighter who was wearing a patch with the French flag," Horizon stated, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

He added that mercenaries often operate in the second echelon and only engage in combat if Ukrainian forces falter in their attack and retreat with heavy losses.

Horizon also recalled another combat episode in which his troops, while breaking out of encirclement, encountered a group of mercenaries. As a result, they successfully eliminated the entire enemy unit without suffering any losses themselves.

In early August, Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) crossed the Russian border and invaded the Kursk Region. On August 7, the chief of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, Valeriy Gerasimov, reported to President Vladimir Putin that the AFU had launched an offensive in the region in an attempt to seize a piece of territory.

A short time later, counterterrorist operation and federal emergency regimes were introduced in the region. Putin said that the Russian army had stabilized the situation in the border region and started to squeeze out the Ukrainian militants. The head of state called the attack on the Kursk region a large-scale provocation. Putin emphasized that retribution awaits the militants.

The President also noted that with the Kursk adventure the AFU made things worse for themselves: they weakened their own positions in critical areas of the North Caucasus Defense Forces. He added that the Russian Armed Forces had increased the pace of the offensive in Donbas.
