Russian security chief honours Azerbaijan’s role in WWII victory PHOTO
Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu has paid tribute to Azerbaijan’s contribution to the Allied victory in the Second World War during a ceremony in Moscow marking the 80th anniversary of the war’s end.
The event featured the presentation of a series of book collections titled “Republics to the Front. 1941–1945”, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to Azerbaijan’s state news agency, citing the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia, the publications were prepared jointly by the Russian Security Council, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Russian Historical Society and the Russian State University for the Humanities.
Diplomats from several Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries attended the ceremony, including Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Russia, Rahman Mustafayev.
Speaking at the event, Shoigu said the republics of the former Soviet Union had made an invaluable contribution to the overall victory in the war. He paid particular tribute to Azerbaijan’s role, highlighting the wartime achievements of prominent military commander Hazi Aslanov, a Guards Major General and twice Hero of the Soviet Union.
During the ceremony, Mustafayev was presented with the documentary collection “Azerbaijan’s Feat During the Second World War”.
