Serbia to boost gas supplies from Azerbaijan amid energy diversification efforts

Aleksandar Vučić, President of Serbia, announced that his country has reached an agreement with Azerbaijan to increase daily natural gas supplies from 1.3 million cubic metres to 2 million cubic metres. Vučić described the increase as “of great importance” for Serbia’s energy security.

Speaking to Azerbaijani media, Vučić emphasised the need for Serbia to develop multiple alternative sources of imported gas. “We must work on creating different alternative options. Because, like many others, we are subject to political discrimination. Otherwise, if the situation becomes even more complicated and deteriorates further, we will not be able to take advantage of all available options,” he said.

The Serbian president also confirmed plans to meet with Vladimir Putin in the coming days to discuss the renewal of the country’s gas contract with Russia, which is set to expire on March 31. Vučić expressed optimism about the talks, stating, “I hope to speak by phone with President Putin in the coming days, and I believe we will find a good solution to the gas issue.”
