Serbian delegation to PACE protests against resolution on Azerbaijan
The Serbian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has sent an appeal with a protest to the chairman of the body Theodoros Rousopoulos in connection with the resolution adopted against the Azerbaijani delegation.
The Serbian delegation noted with regret that it could not participate in the voting on the resolution due to the continuation of the process of formation of "our National Assembly after the parliamentary elections held in the country on December 17, 2023," according to Report.
The Serbian delegation also expressed its dissatisfaction with the resolution adopted against the Azerbaijani delegation "on highly questionable grounds."
"The Serbian delegation to PACE strongly opposes the adopted resolution and calls for its revision in order to avoid negative consequences for the reputation and established role of our Assembly and the Council of Europe," the statement reads.
To recap, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) refused to ratify the credentials of the Azerbaijani delegation in the organization on January 25.
Some 76 MPs voted in favour of the decision, 10 against, while four abstained.
However, the Azerbaijani delegation left the organization even before the vote, stressing that "in the face of the current unbearable atmosphere of racism, Azerbaijanophobia, and Islamophobia in the PACE, the delegation of Azerbaijan decides to cease its engagement with and presence at the PACE until further notice".
