Siemens Turkiye, SOCAR Türkiye complete successful energy modernisation of Petkim complex
Siemens Türkiye and SOCAR Türkiye have successfully completed a major joint project to modernise the energy infrastructure at the Petkim petrochemical complex in Aliaga.
This collaboration, which began in 2017, focused on updating energy systems across 18 plants within the complex. In 2021, the companies signed a five-year agreement to continue enhancing the facility's energy efficiency and sustainability, Caliber.Az report via local media.
As part of the modernisation effort, the project involved the replacement of approximately 150 medium-voltage panels, the upgrade of low-voltage panels, and the implementation of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems. The improvements have significantly boosted the reliability of the energy supply, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced safety standards across the plants.
In 2024, the companies also launched the "Petkim Electrical Health Check" project. This initiative aims to analyse the electrical systems at the complex and identify future investment needs, ensuring the continued success and sustainability of the operations. Hüseyin Gelis, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Siemens Türkiye, highlighted the significance of the partnership with SOCAR Türkiye.
"Not only has this collaboration facilitated the modernisation of the energy infrastructure, but it has also contributed to digital transformation, improved manufacturing efficiency, and reduced environmental impact," he stated.
Cengiz Bozbey, Head of the Electrification and Automation Division at Siemens Türkiye, underscored the necessity of modernisation for companies operating for over 60 years.
"The implementation of Siemens' SCADA systems and advanced energy solutions has not only enhanced labour and safety standards but has also made the petrochemical processes more reliable and intelligent," Bozbey explained.
Kanan Mirzoyev, Head of the Refining and Petrochemicals Division at SOCAR Türkiye and CEO of Petkim, emphasized that the collaboration with Siemens Türkiye aligns with the company's sustainable development and energy efficiency goals.
"As the first and only integrated petrochemical company in Türkiye, Petkim has played a key role in the industry for 60 years. Our investments in environmentally friendly technologies and energy efficiency contribute to sustainable development. The partnership with Siemens Türkiye is a prime example of this vision, setting benchmarks not only for our companies but for the entire sector," he stated.
Over 500 specialists worked on the Petkim facilities as part of the project, ensuring high standards of implementation.
Siemens Türkiye made significant contributions to improving safety and minimizing energy losses, further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two companies and laying the groundwork for future innovative initiatives.
The Petkim petrochemical complex is one of the largest and most important industrial facilities in the country. Established in 1965, Petkim operates as the first and only integrated petrochemical company in Türkiye. It plays a crucial role in the production of a wide range of petrochemical products, including plastics, synthetic fibers, and chemicals used in various industries such as automotive, packaging, construction, and textiles.
