Sister-in-law of Armenian parliament speaker summoned to testify in corruption case
Ani Gevorgyan, the sister-in-law of Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan and a figure in a corruption case linked to the Ministry of Economy, has been summoned to court to provide testimony.
According to Caliber.Az, the information first appeared in the Zhoghovurd newspaper, which cited sources within law enforcement agencies.
Back in April 2025, Simonyan stated that his sister-in-law had been compelled to admit guilt in order to ease the situation. Investigative findings indicate that on January 31, 2024, seven individuals were detained, among them the wife of the speaker’s brother. She was subsequently arrested on February 1 for a two-month period.
On February 12, 2024, Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office released Gevorgyan on bail. That same day, Simonyan reiterated his belief in her innocence, saying he had reviewed the case materials but did not intend to interfere in the judicial proceedings.
