SOCAR and Belgian energy firm sign deal on synthetic natural gas development in Azerbaijan

21 November 2024 15:35

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and global green energy company Tree Energy Solutions (TES) have signed a Joint Study Agreement to study the development of a project to produce synthetic natural gas (e-NG) in Azerbaijan.

The agreement was signed during a meeting of the two firms’ representatives as part of the ongoing COP29 climate change conference in Baku on November 21, Caliber.Az reports, citing SOCAR’s press service.

The document envisages carrying out joint activities to assess the technical, economic and commercial feasibility of applying the advanced modular technology of TES in the region.

The strategic location of Azerbaijan and the extensive energy experience of SOCAR create favourable opportunities for the production of e-NG in the country. In addition, e-NG produced in Azerbaijan can be delivered to Europe via the Southern Gas Corridor.

Notably, Tree Energy Solutions (TES) is a Belgian-based company specializing in energy infrastructure and green hydrogen solutions. TES focuses on advancing sustainable energy systems, particularly in the development of green hydrogen and synthetic methane projects. Its headquarters are in Brussels, Belgium, with operations and projects extending across Europe and globally.

e-NG is electric natural gas, sustainable synthetic methane that can seamlessly replace fossil molecules. e-NG offers the fastest route to dramatically reducing emissions in the global energy system.
