SOCAR, bp set to launch groundbreaking research in Caspian Sea
SOCAR and bp have signed a cooperation agreement focused on seismic and well studies in the Caspian Basin.
Under this partnership, the two companies will carry out a pioneering seismic project using advanced technologies to produce a regional pseudo 3D seismic volume by integrating and matching existing seismic datasets of different vintages, Caliber.Az reports.
This initiative marks the first project of its kind in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea.
The new pseudo 3D seismic volume is expected to significantly enhance regional geological interpretation by reducing dependence on individual 2D seismic lines.
It will support basin-wide 3D mapping, improve insight into exploration potential, and reduce risks for future exploration projects across the Caspian Basin.
As part of the collaboration, SOCAR will supply bp with 2D seismic lines, well data, and geological samples, while bp will carry out the seismic processing and laboratory analysis of the samples.
The pseudo 3D seismic data will be delivered by a contractor with proven expertise and advanced technical capabilities in this field.
