SOCAR Green aims to make Azerbaijan regional hub for renewable energy expertise
SOCAR Green LLC, a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), is working to establish Azerbaijan as a leading regional center for renewable energy knowledge and technology, Elchin Targuliyev, the company’s solar and wind energy expert, said.
Speaking at the “Green Energy Week 2025: Azerbaijan and Central Asia” forum in Baku, Targuliyev outlined SOCAR Green’s strategic focus and ambitions in the green energy sector, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
He stated that the company operates across three key areas.
“First, the development and management of green and low-carbon projects, including renewable energy and biofuels. This also encompasses green hydrogen, geothermal energy, and carbon capture and storage.
Second, we aim to support SOCAR's decarbonization targets by working with various SOCAR assets both domestically and potentially abroad. SOCAR has committed to reducing emission intensity by 30% and absolute emissions by 20% by 2035, with a goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. Our third focus is to gather and consolidate expertise.”
Targuliyev acknowledged the challenges Azerbaijan faces in building a skilled workforce for the renewable energy sector.
“Renewable energy is a relatively new field for Azerbaijan, and we often encounter a lack of sufficient expertise. This means that for any project we plan to implement, we may need to import not only technology but also a significant number of experts. Our goal is to build local expertise and transform Azerbaijan into a regional center for renewable energy and green technologies,” he said.
