SOCAR Green powers up Azerbaijan’s green future with renewable energy, decarbonisation goals
SOCAR Green, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, is making significant strides towards advancing renewable energy and supporting decarbonization in the country.
Elmir Musaev, the company’s director, revealed the ongoing efforts during his speech at the Innovative Paths to a Greener Future: Renewable Energy and Emissions Reduction event in Baku, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Musaev outlined that SOCAR Green is focused on producing "green equipment" to support Azerbaijan’s renewable energy sector. However, he noted that while the country is small, the scale required for such production calls for broader regional cooperation. “Given Azerbaijan’s size, it might be a challenge to focus solely on local production. Larger scales are required for such ventures, and there are also economic hurdles to overcome. Therefore, we are seeking solutions to be presented to the government,” he said.
In addition to its equipment production goals, SOCAR Green is also dedicated to aiding the decarbonization of Azerbaijan’s oil and gas infrastructure.
"Our main objective is to develop and manage renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan, alongside supporting the decarbonization of SOCAR’s oil and gas facilities," Musaev explained. "We collaborate and coordinate with various segments of SOCAR to determine what can be done to decarbonise these assets."
To further its mission, SOCAR Green is in talks with industrial enterprises in Azerbaijan to identify potential areas of collaboration in decarbonization. These combined efforts reflect the company’s commitment to a greener future for Azerbaijan.
