SOCAR leadership eye expanded collaboration with Hungarian energy company
The president of Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company, SOCAR, discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation with a senior executive from the Hungarian multinational energy firm MOL Group.
SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf met with MOL Group Executive Vice President for Exploration and Production Zsombor Marton on the sidelines of the Oil and Gas of Uzbekistan 2026 conference currently underway in Tashkent, as reported by Caliber.Az.
Najaf shared details of the meeting on his official X account on May 13, saying the two sides exchanged “views on joint upstream projects in Azerbaijan.” These include ongoing work under the Exploration, Development, and Production Sharing Agreement for an onshore area in Azerbaijan’s Shamakhi-Gobustan region.

The meeting agenda also included a review of the two companies’ longstanding partnership and existing ventures, while providing an opportunity to discuss further cooperation “aimed at supporting energy security and sustainable development through efficient energy solutions,” the SOCAR chief wrote.
The two-day conference is being held for the 28th time this year and is organised by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan together with Uzbekneftegaz, the state-owned holding company overseeing Uzbekistan’s oil and gas sector.
