South Korea, NATO urge halt to North Korea-Russia military cooperation
On January 15, senior officials from South Korea's defence ministry and NATO expressed serious concerns over the growing illegal military collaboration between North Korea and Russia.
According to South Korea's Ministry of Defence, both sides called for an immediate halt to such cooperation, Caliber.Az reports via Korean media.
The call was made during a meeting in Seoul between Cho Chang-rae, South Korea's Deputy Defence Minister for Policy, and Boris Ruge, NATO's Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Security Policy.
The two officials discussed the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and in Europe.
During their talks, Cho and Ruge emphasized the critical importance of security and defence cooperation between South Korea and NATO. They reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the defence-related objectives outlined in their Individually Tailored Partnership Program (ITPP).
The meeting underscored the need for stronger bilateral efforts between Seoul and NATO to address pressing security challenges.
They also reiterated their determination to implement the defence initiatives agreed upon under the Seoul-NATO Individual Partnership Plan, which was established during the NATO summit in Vilnius in 2023. The partnership covers a wide range of areas, including counterterrorism, disarmament, and nuclear non-proliferation.
